Music Box Celebrated at Cultural Exchange Between Malaysia and Indonesia Jessie Chung Feted by Indonesian Officials with a Magnificent Banquet

Governor of West Sumatra Irwan Prayitno delivered Cert of Appreciation to Jessie Chung
Music Box, the magnum opus of Jessie Chung’s theatrical career, was recently brought to perform in Indonesia. Upon arrival, the Indonesian government held a lavish banquet to welcome its guests, kicking off the cultural exchange event between Malaysia and Indonesia. The theme of this cultural exchange event is “Three Cultures and Two Countries”, with the two countries being Malaysia and Indonesia, and the three cultures being the cultures of Malaysia, Indonesia, and Australia.
The Music Box crew touched down at Minangkabau International Airport in Padang, Indonesia, and was taken to the Governor’s Office of West Sumatra by a police escort to attend a banquet. The Governor of West Sumatra Irwan Prayitno, Deputy Governor Nasrul Abit, Minister of Tourism, and the Governor’s wife were also present. At the banquet, the Governor even went on stage to perform a few songs, showing his sincerity for and the significance of this cultural exchange event between Malaysia and Indonesia.

During his speech, the governor stated that due to its outstanding performance, Music Box has received the government’s support and was chosen to represent Malaysia in the form of theatre via Malindo Business & Cultural Center (MBCC) in this cultural exchange with Indonesia’s cultural department. He also stated that he is honored to have the opportunity to invite Jessie Chung to participate in this cultural exchange between “Three Cultures and Two Countries”, allowing the Indonesian people to broaden their horizon and enjoy an array of songs and performances from Australia.

Music Box was performed at the auditorium of Universitas Negeri Padang, attended by the Governor of West Sumatra province, Irwan Prayitno, the Minister of Tourism, 19 mayors in West Sumatra, many high-ranking officers of the Navy, Army, and Airforce, the chancellor and vice chancellor of the university, and students of the university. Around 2000 theatregoers attended this colossal stage play.

Director Brian Choot stated, during this stop of the Music Box international tour, they all felt the sincerity of the Indonesian government through the hospitality and treatment toward guests; everyone felt like they were being put on a pedestal and pampered. What came as a surprise was that from the first scene to the last scene of the stage play, the Indonesian audience cheered all the way through to show their appreciation and enthusiasm. As the story climaxed, the audience showed even more passion through their applause. When asked about the audience’s reaction, the director chuckled and stated that he regarded them as the "most responsive crowd" of all time as they too were very dramatic and expressed their emotions freely while they rode along the twists and turns of the plot.

After the curtain call, Jessie Chung immediately transformed into the Princess of Rock, partying all the way till midnight with her Indonesian fans. That night, Jessie Chung performed "Sinaran", "Drive My Heart", "Be Strong", and "Feel My Love", wishing the Padang government good luck and a prosperous future. As she sang and danced to the music, the hotblooded crowd was ablaze with excitement, and the Governor and Minister of Tourism were also thrilled to watch the show as their faces lit up with joy.

The next day, the Indonesian government chose a few mayors to bring the Music Box crew to many tourist attractions, introducing them to the famous Minangkabal culture in Padang, taking them on a visit to a palace in Padang, and inviting them to dine together, further encouraging the cultural exchange between Malaysia and Indonesia.

Music Box the Stage Play’s Massive Debut Jessie Chung Makes a Comeback to the Stage

The stage play Music Box, starring Jessie Chung, is arriving in theatres in December!

Music Box, inspired by a true story in 18th century England, which recounts a young lady’s experience with romance, friendship, and family, also incorporates Jessie Chung’s life journey and three relationships. Music Box is a gripping story that will strike and sensitize the audience’s soul.

The audition for the male lead was quite competitive. The original scheduled male lead, because of other obligations, couldn’t be involved in the stage play. The production team therefore had to meticulously choose a new male lead to fill in the spot. Ten finalists were chosen from nearly a hundred auditionees, and after various tests and screenings, the new male lead was born!

Jessie Chung, who is now in Australia completing her second doctorate dissertation also had to spend a great deal of time rehearsing her parts. She doesn’t dare to slack off. Jessie has written on Facebook expressing her mood, saying, “I guess I’m just so eager to put on a great show! It’s like a heavy burden crushing down upon my chest… whew! Everyone involved thinks that Music Box is a lot more demanding in terms of acting skills, compared to the previous stage play… Many difficult challenges await! I really hope that I can deliver the best performance so that you all can enjoy the show.”

The stage play Moonlight, which came out in 2016, was remembered as the show that broke the rules of traditional stage plays in Malaysia by throwing in film techniques and avant-garde theatrical effects in the mix. In supplementing the stage play with an LED stage and a high-quality stereo system, the story’s settings and surroundings were made more lifelike, and the audience was able to experience the story in a much more interactive way. Highlights of the play included the performance of lead actress Jessie Chung, who was so imbibed in her role in this bittersweet tale that she earned the crowd’s applause at various moments of the show, which culminated to a standing ovation at the finale!

Now, Music Box, the sophomore stage play organized by Malaysia Naturopathic Association (MNA) and produced by Future Entertainment & Music Group Australia is set to debut in December this year. The stage play is planned to be taken on an international tour next year to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan, Thailand, Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, India, Australia, etc.

Let us cooperate together to raise cancer funds for cancer patients and do our part in bestowing love upon others.

Jessie Chung Dedicates “JC Vlog” to Fans

Jessie Chung is currently taking a hiatus from the show biz to complete her second doctoral dissertation in Australia. Many fans left a message on Jessie’s Facebook page to send her their best wishes. Jessie, being the thoughtful person she is, willingly took some time off amidst her busy schedule to film a series of videos for her fans to satisfy their “crave”.

During these days in Australia, not only did Jessie spend time completing her thesis and studying for her doctorate in health research, she also took the time to write and research for the latest anti-cancer naturotherapy. Jessie and her husband Joshua Beh are currently staying in a small boat, living all on their own.

To complete her graduate dissertation, Jessie has so far been tutored one-on-one by three highly regarded Australian naturopathic professors. Jessie stated that besides these three professors, she will also learn from many naturopathic doctors, professors, and experts. When she is finished with her training, she hopes that she’ll be able to train more professional therapists to help more people.

On the other hand, Jessie had to postpone all the publicity activities her artist manager originally planned for her in Australia, including TV shows, radio programs, magazine interviews, etc. Jessie revealed that she feels like that she has a tiger by the tail now, and that she can’t spread herself too thin nor chase two rabbits at once. Thinking about a patient in agony always breaks her heart, so she has to hone her skills in the medical field. Caught in such a dilemma, Jessie cried out to her viewers, “What do you guys think I should do?”

Although her hands are completely full, she never forgets about her fans; she would occasionally transform into a director to film the tiny aspects of her life. She calls the video series “JC Vlog” and posts them regularly to her Facebook page for the world to see.

In an episode of JC Vlog, Jessie brought everyone on a tour of her home sweet home (tiny trawler). In the video, she shared that one of the reasons why she chose to live on a boat is because buying a boat in Australia is a lot more economical than buying a house. She joked that her home is also a “portable” house, and that if the news announced a natural disaster was coming, she would be able to escape with her house! Plus, living on the seas serves as an inspiration for her writings, songs, and lyrics, and she could focus on her studies and wrap up her graduate thesis in a peaceful environment.

In other episodes, she discussed about different boat categories, introduced the viewers to her professors, and shared some cooking tips in her boat’s kitchen… It’s apparent that although she lives on a tiny boat, she is nevertheless joyful and content.

The JC Vlog series, filmed by Jessie herself, has become an internet sensation. “Through my Facebook page,” said Jessie, “I hope that I can keep in touch with my fans and friends… Those who want to see me will have to pay attention to my Facebook page! So glad to see everyone’s comments and encouragements!”

Jessie Chung Drops the Bomb Takes a Break from Showbiz

Princess of Rock Jessie Chung is backing out from the music industry? Are the rumors true? She recently dropped the bomb on her Facebook page!

Not long after a performance in front of 5,000 people in Malaysia, she flew to Australia. The next day, she posted a video on her Facebook page stating that she is “temporarily backing out of the music industry”.

Through the video, Jessie stated that after obtaining her Doctorate in Medicine—Oncology, she began working on her second doctorate, a Professional Doctorate in Health Research. She admitted that years of balancing her career with studies proved too stressful. Recently, after discussing the issue with her record label, they decided to delay her concerts, stage plays, and TV show, commercial, and film appearances.

She emphasized that she is only taking a break so that she could fully devote her time to finishing her doctoral dissertation, and that she is not leaving the showbiz. However, since publicity campaign plans in Australia have already been arranged, she is required by her boss to follow through with the original plan.

Besides going to class, she also has to finish her doctorate dissertation during this final year. In the video, she said lightheartedly that if she doesn’t complete her doctorate in half a year, it might be another 10 years before she attains her second doctorate. As for those unavoidable promotional activities, what should she do with them? Jessie said, if the events are truly obligatory, then she would have to fly back for it. It’s apparent that Jessie has made some considerable sacrifices this time for her doctorate.

Jessie’s boss in Australia stated: Jessie has such an immense love for music, we are confident that she’ll return to our family in no time to share her music with the rest of the world.
